Dr Lucas Edwards (they/them/ia) is a trans non-binary Clinical Psychologist. Originally from California, Dr Edwards completed their training at the University of Otago and the University of Auckland. They are especially passionate about providing gender affirming care to takatāpui, trans, and non-binary clients, and have a special interest in the overlap between gender diversity and neurodiversity.
Dr Edwards currently works in Sexual Health and Gender Affirming Care, and has a background working in adult mental health services. They are able to provide consultation, professional supervision, and training and education in various aspects of gender affirming and mental health care.
Dr Edwards’ training has predominantly focused on third wave cognitive behavioural therapies, including mindfulness and compassion focused practices. They use these to collaboratively create a therapy environment to support you to achieve your goals, whether it be through short or long term engagement in therapy.
Their therapy style is guided by humanistic, client-centered, and contextual behavioural perspectives. They bring values such as humour, compassion and trauma-informed care to therapy. Dr Edwards is dedicated to upholding Te Tiriti o Waitangi in their work, and is committed to ongoing learning to support takatāpui, MVPFAFF+ and other cultural groups in Aotearoa.
